Running as Santa for Charity

A dismal December morning in Greenwich and I was up early ready to take part in the 2009 Santa Run for charity.

We (the Lymphoma Association) had 15 runners (pictured above) among hundreds of other Santa's running the 5km.

After the mass warm up we made our way to the start line. The gun went and it was clash of the men & women in the red suits!

It was a very tough and wet course, with lots of hills!

I made it to the end in around 30 minutes, not my best time for 5km, by far!

The run was fun and I raised over £100 for the Lymphoma Association, but I don't think I'll be running in a beard again!

Thank you to all my sponsors for their kind support in helping the Lymphoma Association support people affected by lymphatic cancer.

Quad Safari

I went quad-biking with Quad Safari England today.

After a thorough briefing we tried the quad bikes out on the field. We were told to steer around a course of cones (in place of trees) in order to qualify to take the bikes off road.

The briefing

No cones (trees) hit so I joined the first group off road! It was amazing fun, some of the guys were really quick and a bit crazy, but I loved it and would definitely do it again!

Modelling for a student health campaign

The Lymphoma Association are currently running a health campaign, funded by the Department of Health, aimed a young people under 30 (in particular students) to raise awareness of the symptoms of lymphatic cancer. PITS is:

Persistent lumps
Itching
Tiredness
Sweating

For the first year the agency came up with the idea of running a pit-fart competition for students to win a trip to Paris. People are asked to film themselves doing a pit-fart and upload it to www.pitfart.com. The film which receives the most hits will win the Paris getaway!

I was asked, by my colleagues in the communications team, to model for a poster. You can see my modelling début at the bottom of the poster!

When I met James Cracknell

The Lymphoma Association's Charity of the Year partner, Nielsen UK, held a Sports Day as one of their team challenge events. I was invited to attend and take part.

The event was to take place after the launch of Nielsen's successful bid to become an official partner of London 2012!!

To my surprise and delight James Cracknell, Olympic Rower, was there to help with the launch. James and I are pictured above.

With James' consent we decided to collect donations from those wanting to have pictures taken to go in the charity pot!

An old school style sports day followed with egg and spoon, three legged, wheel-barrow races and a tug of war at the end.
The sports day raised over £200.
