Oxfordshire Youth Games 2007

The Oxfordshire Youth Games 2007 was my first attempt at organising what I considered a relatively BIG sports event... well for the first one anyway!

The Youth Games is a multi style sports competition for young people aged 7-14 years. It takes place in most counties across the UK, the biggest Youth Games is in London!

Over 1000 youngsters took part in the Oxfordshire Youth Games 2007, and many more attended to support them in 10 sporting competitions. Luck was on our side as the weather turned out to be beautiful after the weeks of rain we saw leading up to the event and the floods which shortly followed.

To see the youngsters enjoying themselves on the day, it was definitely worth the months of planning and the extremely late nights worked in the 2 weeks leading up to the Games just to pull things together.
Anyway... I think I pulled it off!

Oxfordshire Sports Awards 2006

The first Oxfordshire Sports Awards, commemorating the sporting commitment and achievements of 2006, was held at the Witney Lakes Resort on Friday 23 March 2007.

Over 120 guests, including the shortlisted nominees, key partners, representatives from Oxfordshire sports clubs, and members of the 5 district councils attended the awards ceremony.

It was hosted by Roger Cowdrey, Chairman of the Oxfordshire Sports Partnership and Victoria Bennett, Sports Reporter for ITV Thames Valley.

We presented awards in eight categories, there was extremely tough competition, with some very worthy winners.

We were delighted all our award winners were able to take time out of their busy schedules to collect the awards on the night. Many of the winners below have gone on to achieve great things following the awards.

The winners were:

Young Disabled Sports Performer of the Year: Shanie Lee Jacks (Dance)

Disabled Sports Performer of the Year: Danielle Watts (Swimming)

Young Volunteer of the Year: Chris Newton (Rugby)

Volunteer of the Year: Brian Toft (Rugby)

Coach of the Year: Struan McNeil (Swimming)

Young Sports Achiever of the Year: Claire Lasko (Sailing)

Sports Achiever of the Year: Nathan Douglas (Athletics)
